With a century of fireworks tradition, one of the most fascinating and unmissable events in Blanes is this festival of lights, colors, and smoke that brings tens of thousands of spectators to our beaches every July. The fireworks are launched from Sa Palomera, an incomparable setting to illuminate the sky and the spectators' gaze on memorable late July nights, which are also filled with concerts and the desire to enjoy the outdoors.
Anyone who has visited Blanes in the last hundred years will have seen or heard of this great spectacle, of which there are written references as far back as 1891. Only the Civil War between 1936 and 1944, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 prevented its celebration, but since then, there hasn't been a summer without the sky alight with fire, colors, and smoke.
The current format has an overwhelming balance: between 120,000 and 150,000 spectators daily, making a total of almost a million people throughout the entire Fiesta Mayor, filling the beaches, promenades, and terraces with their heads in the air, completely amazed by the fireworks display.
But it wasn't always a competition. This format was born in the 1970s, evolving into an attractive stage for the world's best fireworks companies.
Fireworks is Fiesta Mayor, it's Santa Ana, it's Blanes in its purest form. This festival is not to be missed in any way.
